According to a recent report by Diario Gol, Barcelona forward and former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez is being linked with a shock move to Manchester United at the end of this campaign. The same source has also revealed that the Red Devils have made contact with the Catalans to discuss a possible transfer for the Uruguayan international.
Suarez has struggled to be productive in front of goal in recent weeks which has cast his future at the Nou Camp in doubt. Hence, Barca is looking to replace him (Manchester Evening News) with a younger and more potent option as Suarez’s lack of form has been quite concerning for Ernesto Valverde.
The 32-year-old striker has found the back of the net just once in his last eight starts for the Catalans while he has scored one goal in his past 17 matches in European competitions. Those numbers tell the story and prove that Suarez is a forward struggling with confidence in front of the opposition goal.
However, it seems that these reports linking Suarez with a surprise move to Old Trafford are nothing but stories to fill the papers. The Uruguayan is still regarded as one of the best players in Liverpool history so it’s difficult to see how the striker can move to his former club’s arch-rivals and tarnish his history with the Merseyside outfit.
Hence, we can expect the out of form Barca forward to move on in the summer but maybe to his former club AFC Ajax. Marc Overmars has recently informed the striker that the doors are “always open” for Suarez at AFC Ajax (Goal.com) so it makes more sense for Suarez to devote the twilight years of his playing career to his former employers who made him who he is today.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to convince Suarez and should instead concentrate on signing other transfer targets to help them in their quest for challenging for major silverware next season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has got the likes of Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez who are all fighting with each other for a place up top, so it seems like Man United are well-covered in that position. Thus, it once again leads us to believe that these recent reports of Suarez’s move to the red half of Manchester are nothing but fabricated stories to sell papers.
