According to a recent report by La Republica, Liverpool have made a massive offer to secure the services of Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli. The same report has also revealed that the Reds have made a £61m bid for the Serie A star through the player’s agent Mino Raiola and his father – to avoid dealing with Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis due to his volatile past.
However, La Republica has also claimed that the Italian outfit has rejected the offer as it doesn’t meet their valuation of the player which is believed to be in the region of £131m. It is no surprise that Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options next summer to ease the workload of his front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool’s star-studded frontline has struggled to score goals in recent weeks which begs the question of whether Klopp should have strengthened his squad during the January transfer window. Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge have made their fair share of contributions off the bench, but none of them are good enough to merit regular starts in the Reds first-team.
Hence, there is a need for a player of Insigne’s quality who can come in and add some real competition for the likes of Mane, Salah and Firmino as Liverpool look to win some silverware over the next few years.
The Merseyside heavyweights are currently leading the Premier League standings with a healthy three point gap over Manchester City. However, the lack of squad depth has harmed their chances of securing some positive results in the recent past. Thus, the Reds should consider splashing the cash if it means they can improve their squad for another title challenge next season.
The Frattamaggiore born talent has featured in 27 matches for Napoli this term, scoring 11 goals while creating six assists across all competitions. He has also earned 30 international caps for the Italian national team and has four goals to his name for his nation.
The 27-year-old prospect boasts electrifying pace and is a very productive dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is also a great passer and can link up play well with his teammates in the attacking end of the pitch. His knack for scoring and setting up goals consistently would add another dimension to Klopp’s team at Anfield which is why this is a deal worth pursuing even if it means that Liverpool have to break their transfer record to lure Insigne to the red half of Merseyside.
