Daniel James of Swansea City was close to moving to Leeds United last month, but the move went downhill in the dying moments under spectacular circumstances. Since then, Leeds United have maintained (Wales Online) that it was Swansea who are to be blamed for the failed move as the player had already completed (Leeds Live) his medical at Elland Road.
Leeds United recently defeated Swansea City at home and they had a slight dig at the Swans with this brilliant tweet.

A recent interview from Leeds United’s chief executive confirms that the Whites will once again try their luck in the summer to land Wales international Daniel James. Angus Kinnear was quoted as saying, ”The Daniel James transfer didn’t fall through down to any lack of finance, all of the finance was agreed. We made Swansea a very generous offer that we thought they’d accepted.”
“It was perhaps the most bizarre end to a transfer window I’ve ever had and the deal didn’t go through. It was strange I think because it’s disappointing with the amount of Victor’s (Orta) scouting team had put into identifying the right player.”
When asked if Leeds will renew their interest in James in the summer, Kinnear responded: “Absolutely. He will definitely maintain an interest.”
It would be interesting to see whether the Whites would be able to land him in the summer. One thing which might go in their favor is that they can move to the Premier League by then which should turn James’ head as Swansea are currently struggling to even get in the playoff spots.
However, recently Graham Potter gave an interview where he indicated that all the players who came close to leaving last month, could sign a new contract and he is already in talks with them. Therefore it could very well come down to whether the 21-year-old wants to stick with Swansea or move to West Yorkshire in the summer.
United need to add depth to their squad especially if they move to the English top flight next season. We don’t see them staying up in the Premier League with a razor thins squad. Therefore, we can expect some serious business being done by the club in the summer.
James is going to be on the top of the list, and the winger would be a welcome addition to the Leeds squad. It is clear that Marcelo Bielsa rates him highly even though his numbers with Swansea aren’t too good to talk about this season. The board is doing it right by identifying some of their targets early for the summer, and a move for James is set to be revived at the end of this campaign after the recent comments from Angus Kinnear.
