Chelsea will clash heads with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday hoping to win their first piece of silverware under Maurizio Sarri. The Pensioners come into this contest on the back of a dominant 3-0 win over Malmo in the UEFA Europa League which should give them some hope of causing an upset this weekend.
However, the Citizens are flying high and are aiming to win a quadruple, so we can expect them to go all out in search of the win. Sarri is likely to opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might play Jorginho once again in a holding midfield position.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Kepa Arrizabalaga will retain his place in goal for Maurizio Sarri’s team on Sunday despite conceding two goals versus Manchester United in the FA Cup. The Spanish goalie will need to put in a much-improved performance at the back if the Pensioners are to have any chance of withstanding the might of the Man City attackers this weekend.
The West London outfit might lineup with the defensive pair of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger who would both operate as the centre-backs. They would be in for a difficult outing against a dangerous Man City frontline of Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.
Cesar Azpilicueta will resume his full-back duties on the right side of Sarri’s backline. The Spaniard has defended well in recent weeks but will have his hands full while dealing with Sane’s pace in his own half. Marcos Alonso should get the nod to start at left-back as the Spaniard looks to regain his old form for Chelsea and make some positive contributions on the pitch.
Midfield
The controversial midfield trio of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante might retain their roles at the middle of the park. Despite recent criticism urging Sarri to play Kante as a defensive midfielder, it seems like the Italian manager might once again ask Jorginho to act as the defensive lynchpin in midfield while both Kovacic and Kante gets the license to roam in and around the Man City penalty area.
Attack
Both Eden Hazard and Willian should feature on the flanks as they look to create some decent opportunities for Gonzalo Higuain who will spearhead Sarri’s attack up front.
The Argentine goal-scorer was brought into the club on loan in January so he will have a point to prove when he laces up to take on the Man City defenders on Sunday.
