According to a recent report by Voetbal Primeur, PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn is keen on making a move away from the Philips Stadium at the end of this campaign. The Sun had earlier claimed that West Ham United were among a whole host of clubs hoping to secure the services of Bergwijn during the January transfer window. However, a deal failed to materialise last month, so this recent development would be a massive boost to the Hammers’ chances of landing the player in a few months’ time.
Bergwijn came through the youth ranks of AFC Ajax prior to making a switch to join their rivals, PSV in the summer of 2011. Following his move to Eindhoven, the Dutch winger has slowly worked his way up their ranks before establishing himself as a regular presence in the Eredivisie outfit’s first-team back in 2015.
The 21-year-old has already put in a string of remarkable performances for PSV during this season. He has featured in 27 matches for the Dutch team this term, scoring ten goals while creating nine assists in all competitions.
At such a young age, Bergwijn has represented his nation at every youth level from Under-17 onwards. He has also earned three international caps for the Netherlands national side so far.
The PSV sensation is lightning quick on the pitch and is a very effective dribbler with the ball at his feet when he runs down the by-line behind the opposition defence. He has developed a healthy habit of scoring goals while also notching up with assists consistently as evidenced by his brilliant record this season.
The addition of someone of Bergwijn’s potential could be a smart move for Manuel Pellegrini’s team at the London Stadium. Moreover, he will also be a signing for the future so West Ham should consider exploring the possibility of recruiting him next summer.
The chance to see Bergwijn link up with players such as Felipe Anderson, Samir Nasri, Andriy Yarmolenko and Marko Arnautovic is a mouth-watering prospect for any West Ham supporter. So the East London outfit owes it to their fans to try their best in acquiring the Dutch youngster’s services at the end of this campaign.
