In the aftermath of back to back stalemates, Rangers hit back sensationally on Wednesday night knocking down Kilmarnock 5-0 in the Scottish Cup fifth-round replay. Alfredo Morelos showcased his excellence once more as the Colombian bagged four goals on his return from a suspension. The 22-year-old has now taken his scoring tally to 27 this season and is gradually blossoming as someone destined to secure a high-profile summer swoop.
Although there were suitors for the striking sensation during the summer window, the Bears boss Steven Gerrard took no time in turning down bids as he values Morelos much higher than the offers he received.
The player has recently been compared to the likes of Diego Costa and Luis Suarez due to his on-field mastery as well as controversy. But the gaffer opted not to make comparisons and backed him to make his own name in time.
“I don’t think it is fair on Alfredo to compare him to Diego Costa or Luis Suarez – he is Alfredo Morelos and deserves credit in his own right.”
Stated the gaffer (as quoted by Sky Sports) who has helped the marksman better his game and develop other aspects of his game besides scoring.
Morelos, meanwhile, has been criticised for his attitude having received several marching orders in crunch time of the season. His carelessness cost the Gers severely on a few occasions which agitated the supporters irrespective of his influence in their attacking third. He is still pretty young and should show matureness with time. But the Light Blues might find it difficult to keep hold of him and would eventually cash in on the youngster as per Rangers legend Neil McCann.
“Without being disrespectful to Rangers, they’ll cash in on this guy because a lot of teams will be looking at his goal-scoring exploits.”
