According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Juventus have no plans to retain the services of their Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain. The same source has also revealed that the Serie A giants have shown no indication that they want to keep hold of their prized asset, who is currently playing on loan at Chelsea. However, Il Corriere di Torino claims that the Pensioners are unwilling to cough up €36m to sign the Argentine international permanently and are demanding a discounted price despite their transfer ban.
As long as the Premier League outfit can reach an agreement for the forward before the 30th of June, they shouldn’t have any complications regarding the permanent transfer for Higuain.
This recent development will be a big boost for the West London giants as they need all the help they can get to cope with the fact that the club won’t be able to sign players for the next two transfer windows.
The 31-year-old has been a proven goal-scorer in the Serie A over the past half-decade since his switch to Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013. He has established himself as a top goal-getter in Italian football which is one of the main reasons why Maurizio Sarri decided to bring him to Stamford Bridge in January.
Since his loan move to the West London club, Higuain has scored two goals in six appearances for them in domestic competitions. However, he needs to be more lethal in front of goal if Chelsea are to claim a top 4 place at the end of this campaign. He has also taken part in 75 international matches for the Argentine national team and has 31 goals to his name for his country.
At 31, the Argentine can still perform at a high level which is what the Pensioners could benefit from over the next few months as they look to challenge for the UEFA Europa League crown while also maintain their push towards securing UEFA Champions League football for the next campaign. Higuain boasts blistering pace and is an unforgiving finisher inside the opposition penalty area. However, we are yet to witness the best of him in the Premier League so far.
The former Napoli forward will be a significant upgrade over Olivier Giroud who has lacked consistency throughout this campaign. The lack of goals has hampered the growth of this current Chelsea team, so they are in dire need of a proven goal-scorer heading into the next season. Higuain’s acquisition on a permanent deal will be a shrewd move for the Pensioners which could help them challenge for major silverware in the coming years. Hence, there is no doubt that Juve’s willingness to sell him will be a massive boost for Sarri and co. at Stamford Bridge.
