According to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are dreaming of securing the signature of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. The same source has also revealed that it would be a complicated transfer for the Catalans to orchestrate as they would have to pay a fee in excess of €100m to even have a chance of agreeing on a deal to bring the English forward to the Nou Camp.
Rashford has managed to establish himself in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first-team ahead of Romelu Lukaku and has been enjoying a rich vein of form for the Red Devils in recent weeks. He has been scoring goals for fun of late and is finally showing that he has matured as a centre-forward.
His goals have helped Man United challenge for a top 4 spot, and they are now in pole position to secure UEFA Champions League football for the next campaign.
The 21-year-old has featured in 32 matches for the Mancunian giants this term, scoring ten goals while grabbing eight assists across all competitions. He had previously graduated from the Manchester United Academy and knows what it takes to prove his worth at the highest level. Hence, he has all the makings to be a success in La Liga if he does decide to make a switch to Spain in the coming years.
The English forward is blessed with electrifying pace and can make well-timed runs behind the opposition defence. He is also a very accomplished finisher in front of goal and is a real threat in the attacking end of the pitch.
The only thing Rashford needs to work on is his strength as he can sometimes be overpowered which leads to him losing possession of the ball. Otherwise, he is a fantastic asset for the Reds of Manchester and has a very promising career ahead of him at Old Trafford.
The addition of a player of Rashford’s quality will undoubtedly bolster Ernesto Valverde’s attacking options at the Nou Camp. Barca has got the likes of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Malcom who are all fighting for a place in the Catalans first-team. The form of Suarez has been quite poor over the past few months. Hence, it is no surprise that Valverde is on the lookout for a new striker in the summer as he looks to replace the Uruguayan with a more prolific option up top.
Only time will tell whether Valverde can come up with an offer which would convince Man United to part ways with their prized asset. For now, it seems like a distant dream for the Catalans, so they should also have back-up options lined up just in case their Rashford pursuit doesn’t come to fruition.
