Rangers travelled to SuperSeal stadium to take on Hamilton, and the Bears came out all guns blazing as they secured a thumping 5-0 win.
The away side started on the ascendency as they were rampant in the first half. Hamilton hardly provided any resistance, and that is the reason why they sit second from the bottom. Ryan Jack opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range effort. Defoe joined the act, and Arfield’s thunderous strike provided comfort as the game was wrapped up in the first half itself. James Tavernier added the fourth from the spot just before half time.
Hamilton improved their performance in the second half, but the game was already done and dusted by then. Kyle Lafferty scored in the dying moments of the match to provide an added gloss to the scoreline.
Here is how the Gers fared on the day.
Allan McGregor 6
Was a spectator for most parts of the game. Looked calm with the ball at his feet.
Joe Worrall 6
Wasn’t tested much but had one or two shaky moments in defence. Always seems to have a rash moment in him.
Connor Goldson 7
Did a decent job at the back as he looked commanding in defence.
Andy Halliday 7.5
Has definitely played better than Barisic in the last few games and once again did a fantastic job.
James Tavernier 8
On the attacking front, provided a lot of good crosses. Found Defoe for the second goal brilliantly and converted later from the spot for Rangers’ fourth.
Ryan Jack 8.5
Linked up play well and nicked a lot of 50-50 balls. Opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range effort.
Glen Kamara 7
Once again showed why Rangers were keen on getting him early in January. Provided a lot of good balls and always tried to move the ball forward.
Scott Arfield 8
Scored from a brilliant long-range effort. Linked up play well with his team-mates and played some lovely little one-twos which Hamilton struggled to cope with in the attacking third.
Daniel Candeias 7.5
Provided some dangerous crosses. Worked hard and pressed well. Provided a smart assist to Lafferty in the end.
Ryan Kent 6
His touch was slightly off. Maybe he was trying too hard on some occasions. Had some bright moments as well as he provided width from the left.
Jermain Defoe 7
Missed an early chance but made amends by scoring a header from close range. Did well by bringing his team-mate into the game with his hold up play.
Substitutes
Steven Davis 5
Provided fresh legs on the pitch after coming on.
Kyle Lafferty 7
His movement was fantastic in the box and got a well-deserved goal in the end. Definitely made a case for starting when Morelos is unavailable.
Lassana Coulibaly N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
