There is no question that clubs from the Chinese Super League have created chaos in the European football transfer market. Everton defender, Tyias Browning has become the latest player to have made a move to the cash pumped Chinese Super League.
Liverpool Echo reports that Tyias Browning has completed a permanent move to the Chinese side, Guangzhou Evergrande. The minute details of the transfer are not yet out and its highly unlikely to be revealed.
The 24-year-old defender is a product of the Everton youth system and had spent nearly 15 years at the club. During his 7-year tenure with the senior team, Browning had only managed to make nine appearances for the Toffees.
One of those nine appearances for the blue of Everton includes an appearance in the highly competitive Merseyside derby in 2014. Browning came on as a substitute at Anfield in an encounter which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Despite being a part of Everton’s youth setup, Browning failed to make it into the senior side on a regular basis. Before his departure to the Far East, Browning was playing regularly for Everton’s U-23 team. Lack of opportunities at Goodison Park saw the versatile defender take on three loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Preston North End and most recently, Sunderland.
Browning spent the entire 2017/18 Campaign with Sunderland and went on to make 27 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions. The defender never really lived up to the expectations at the Stadium of Light despite showing glimpses of his actual potential on numerous occasions.
Sunderland ended up getting relegated by the end of the season which meant Browning had to return to Liverpool. After spending the first half of the 2018/19 season playing for David Unsworth’s U-23 side, the defender has seemingly left for China for good.
Game time every week in China would ensure the development and growth of the budding player in the right direction. The nearly 6 feet defender could very well make a return to the European football scene and possibly even the Premier League if he can put his talents to good use. For now, we think moving out of Everton was the right move for him. However, we are a little sceptical whether China was the right place to go for him.
