Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Jonny Otto on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid, the club has confirmed on their official website. The West Midlands team have also revealed that the Spanish left-back has penned a permanent deal which would keep him at the Molineaux Stadium until 2023. BBC Sport has also claimed that the Premier League outfit has sealed a £15m move for the Vigo born talent.
The 24-year-old has expressed his delight after finally signing for the West Midlands outfit on a permanent basis. In an official interview with the club’s website, he said, “I’m very happy to sign for Wolves. The last few days we spoke about it and now it’s official, I’ll be Wolves for the next four years. I’m really happy to continue to be involved with the team. I am very happy here, the truth is that it was very easy to decide. They are treating me very well, there are great staff, great team mates and great supporters. It is a big club and really, I am very happy to be here.”
This recent development will be welcome news for everyone associated with Wolves as Jonny has been enjoying a rich vein of form for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this season. He has been a constant presence for the Wanderers down the left flank and has linked up well with his teammates going forward.
Although, there are still some question marks regarding his defensive capabilities, yet he provides a fantastic outlet for Wolves going forward as his pace and trickery can cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders.
Jonny has featured in 22 matches for Wolves this term, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist while operating as a left wing-back across all competitions. He has also completed 79.1% of his passes and has also made an average of 2.5 tackles and 2 interceptions per match.
There is no doubt that the Spaniard has improved a lot under Nuno Santo’s stewardship, so it was only fair of him to repay the Portuguese manager’s faith by signing for the club permanently before the end of this winter transfer window.
As for Wolves, this deal was a no-brainer as Jonny could be well-worth the £15m fee that they had to cough up to bring him to the Molineaux on a permanent basis.
