Rangers might have signed 15 players in the summer, but there were quite a few players they missed out on at that time. One of them was Blackpool’s defender Curtis Tilt who was linked with a £1m move to Rangers, but the English club didn’t sanction the move. The Gers later signed Gareth McAuley for a season, and it might be that the Gers would look to add a defender this month (Our opinion).
They might not need a defender immediately, but it’s clear that they would have to get someone sooner rather than later as Joe Worrall and McAuley are here at Ibrox on a short-term deal. The latest interview (Blackpool Gazette) from Blackpool manager should keep Steven Gerrard on red alert as Terry McPhillips acknowledged that his players could be available for the right price.
He was quoted as saying, ”It’s hard to say (whether Tilt will leave) because I think everyone has their price. But it’s fair to say the club didn’t sell Tilty in the summer when they got good offers for him, so that won’t be down to me, that will be down to the club.”
We think the Gers should go back for him as Tilt has had a good season so far. Moreover, the defender is in the final year of his contract, and maybe in January, the Seasiders’ board could sanction this move. We believe the Glaswegian giants can get him on a cut-price deal this month as Blackpool might not risk losing him for free in the summer.
The defender has been the mainstay of Blackpool’s defence as he has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season. His towering presence during set-piece also makes him a massive threat on the attacking front, and he already has three goals and an assist to his name.
The defender has risen through non-league football, and Blackpool was the most significant break in his career where he joined in 2017. He is slowly moving up the ladder and might be tempted to move to a club of Rangers’ stature who are on the upward trajectory at the moment. With the Glaswegian giants, he also might have a chance to play in European football next season.
The target is there for the taking and Rangers should swoop in for him this month. To go with his strength and physicality, Tilt also happens to be a left-footed centre back which should suit Gerrard’s plans further. With two defenders set to leave the club by next summer, the manager should already start planning well in advance for their replacements and Tilt seems to be a good bet at the moment.
