According to a recent report by the Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are on the lookout for a new striker during this winter transfer window after Harry Kane’s recent knee injury which will keep him out for at least six weeks. The same report has also claimed that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest on Barcelona winger Malcom after they have failed to sign him from FC Girondins Bordeaux last summer.
However, since his switch to the Nou Camp, the Brazilian prospect has fallen down the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde and has been a sporadic feature for the Catalans so far this season. The Independent has also revealed that Barca are willing to make him available for a transfer this month and would be looking for a fee in the region of €44m up front for their prized asset.
There is no doubt about the Brazilian speedster’s incredible potential, and so Spurs would do well to land him this month. Malcom has made ten appearances for Barca this term, scoring two goals across multiple competitions. He has also represented Brazil at the youth levels but is yet to feature for their national side so far.
The Brazilian starlet can run at the opposition defenders at high speed and is a brilliant dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is also capable of beating his marker on the dribble especially in 1v1 situations down the wide areas. However, Malcom still has a long way to go and so he needs to keep his head down and work on improving his physical attributes if he intends to be a success in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old will be an ideal fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s style of football at North London as he would offer even more pace and quality to the Spurs attack. He will also add some much-needed depth to Pochettino’s squad and will be a good back-up for Harry Kane up top.
Malcom could be a shrewd midseason acquisition for Spurs if they can pull off a deal during this transfer window and coughing up €44m could be money well spent for Tottenham as he will add a lot of long-term value to the club.
