According to a recent report by Manchester Evening News, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he has long-term plans for Spurs and is quite happy with life in North London. The same report mentions a recent interview ahead of Tottenham’s big clash against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-finals where Pochettino said, “I hope, or I wish, to be here 20 years, and decide to leave or to finish my career here,”
“I am so focused here, and want to help the club to achieve what the club want to be in history.
“It would be fantastic. I am so happy to be here. I am so happy to work in that pressure. Why not?”
The Argentine head coach’s recent words will be quite discouraging for the Man United chiefs and their attempts to convince Pochettino to make a move to Old Trafford next summer. United are still looking for a long-term candidate for the managerial position which is currently being occupied by the club’s interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjær until the end of this campaign.
Despite the Norwegian manager’s winning start to life as a manager at the red half of Manchester, our guess is that he would not get the job on a permanent basis. So Pochettino’s recent revelation will hurt even more considering the lack of quality managers currently available in world football.
Since his move from Southampton in the summer of 2014, the 42-year-old has done a remarkable job at Spurs even though he had to work on a limited budget throughout his managerial tenure at North London so far. Now that Pochettino’s side are finally set to move into the new stadium, things are looking up for the Argentine manager. So it is understandable that he is quite content with how things are going for his side at the moment.
However, things change quickly in football so a lot might happen between now and the end of this campaign. United shouldn’t give up on their hopes of landing Pochettino just yet. If the opportunity presents itself between now and the summer, the Reds of Manchester should go all out to secure his services as it could be a real game-changer for United and their long-term ambitions as a football club.
The Murphy-born manager has taken charge of 249 matches for Spurs, winning 143, drawing 52 and losing 54 of those matches with a healthy PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.93 (According to Transfermrkt). So his record speaks for itself, and there is no doubt that it will be a big blow for the Mancunian giants if they fail to land Pochettino next summer.
