According to Coventry Live, Sunderland might have already found a replacement for Sunderland forward Josh Maja. The Black Cats forward has now signed (BBC) for Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux for an undisclosed fee.
This has led the Wearside club into looking for a new player to fill in for the striker, who has already notched up 16 goals this season. The report says that there has been an interest to bring in Kieffer Moore, who currently plies his trade for the League One club Barnsley.
The 26-year-old has been in brilliant form and has been playing catch up with Maja this season in terms of goalscoring. The Englishman has already notched up 15 goals this season for the Tykes and has earned rave reviews from a number of experts for his delectable displays.
The player could come into the Sunderland side as the like-to-like replacement for the departing Josh Maja and could lead their line from the word go. The Black Cats are currently in a good position in the League One points table, and this possible acquisition would give their chances to make it back into the Championship a considerable boost.
Though Moore lacks the physicality of Maja up front, his finishing and ability to take shots from every possible range make him the perfect man to lead the line for Jack Ross. The Englishman could be the ideal inclusion for the Wearside club to replace his compatriot Maja.
However, it would be difficult for the Black Cats to get their hands on Moore, who has been nothing less than a talisman this season for the Tykes. Barnsley would not want to let the 26-year-old striker leave the club and Sunderland might have to shell out a significant amount to get the player this January.
After the drop from the second tier last season, Jack Ross has done a fabulous job with the club and has led them to a great position in the league table. It would be suicidal for them to throw away the advantage, which might happen after the departure of Maja. The addition of a significant striking threat up front seems to be an ardent necessity for the Black Cats right now, and Kieffer Moore could just be the man they are looking for in this situation.
