Manchester United have confirmed on their official website that Scott McTominay has penned a new contract which will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend his deal for another 12 months.
In an interview conducted by the club’s official website, the Scottish midfielder expressed his delight after signing the new long-term deal and said, “Manchester United has been my life since the age of five and playing for the club I’ve always supported is all I’ve ever wanted to do.
“I’m still young and I’m learning all the time from the manager, his coaching staff and from the world-class players in the squad.
“I can’t wait to continue my progress at this great club.”
This recent development should be greeted with cheers by the Man United fan base as the Scottish youngster has taken great strides towards becoming a regular first-team player since making his debut at the Theatre of Dreams. He was heavily involved under Jose Mourinho last season and was a substantial presence in midfield for the Red Devils. His incredible contributions last season helped his team claim a strong second-place finish in the Premier League. However, he has been starved of first-team opportunities this term.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjær at the helm, things are likely to improve for the United talent who could once again stake a claim for a place in the United starting XI. McTominay has proven his worth at the highest level over the past year and could be in line for a bright future at the red half of Manchester.
The Scottish talent can pass the ball accurately and can also make some good interceptions at the centre of the park. He is physically strong and can perform his defensive duties well while operating as a holding midfielder. Moreover, he doesn’t have any real weaknesses in his game which is one of the many reasons why he is rated so highly at Old Trafford.
McTominay can now concentrate on working hard on the pitch while United look to benefit from his talents in the coming years. It seems like a win-win situation for both parties which could help the Reds of Manchester reestablish themselves as one of the top contenders in the English top-flight.
