According to a recent report by Portuguese news outlet Correio da Manha, Liverpool have made a massive £61m (€70m) offer for João Félix, but Benfica have reportedly turned down the bid in an effort to keep hold of their prized asset. The same report has also revealed that the Portuguese starlet recently penned a new deal with the Liga NOS giants and his current contract contains a £105m buyout clause.
Moreover, Correio da Manha has mentioned that the Reds will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AS Monaco in pursuit of the Benfica wonderkid.
The 19-year-old has been in excellent form for his team and has already put in some eye-catching displays for the Portuguese outfit during the course of this campaign. He has featured in 18 matches for the Eagles this term, scoring six goals while creating one assist across all competitions. The youngster has also represented Portugal at various youth levels and is destined for a big future in European football.
Felix grew up playing football back in his homeland for clubs such as Dragon Force and FC Porto before sealing a switch to Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica in the summer of 2015. The Portuguese talent worked his way up the youth ranks of Benfica and has finally managed to break into their first-team at the start of this season.
Felix is highly versatile and primarily operates as an attacking midfielder, but he is also quite capable of playing as a secondary striker or down the left flank as a winger. He also boasts incredible pace which helps him dribble with the ball at high speed to cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders.
The addition of Felix will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options at the Merseyside club. The Reds have a lot of promising young talents in their ranks and will benefit from acquiring a player like Felix. However, it is difficult to see the logic behind Liverpool making a massive bid for a player who is yet to prove his worth at the highest level over a prolonged period of time.
Thus, Klopp is better of spending the money on other targets and should not consider going back in with another bid for the Benfica starlet.
