Rangers have already secured the services of Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara on a pre-contract deal. The former Arsenal player is going to join the Gers in the summer after his contract with the Dee expires. However, various reports (Sky Sports) have been doing the rounds that the Bears are in negotiation with Jim McIntyre over a possible move this month and the Dee boss also indicated the same.
Dundee knows that they would be better of selling Kamara this month instead of losing him for free after a few months. McIntyre was quoted as saying, ”I think when a player signs a pre-contract nine times out of 10 he would rather move on – everybody is aware of that. Discussions are ongoing, we will see where it leads.”
However, negotiations might have stalled according to the recent reports from the Scottish Sun as it is believed that Dundee manager wanted a Rangers player on loan in exchange of selling Kamara this month and that player happens to be 20-year-old Ross McCrorie.
But reports claim that Rangers are not looking to do any deal like that and they are set to hold on to McCrorie especially after he has emerged as a decent first team option.
The midfielder has played in 19 games in all competitions this season and that signifies the importance which the Scotsman holds in this current squad. He had to be satisfied with late substitute appearances at the beginning of the season but ever since the loss of form of Lassana Coulibaly and the departure of Ovie Ejaria; McCrorie has been getting regular game time and the Scottish midfielder has gone from strength to strength. McCrorie often plays in the deepest role in midfield but he can even fill out as a centre back and as a right back when required.
The midfielder put in a commendable performance in the Old Firm derby as he pressed and harassed the Celtic players and made some crucial interception and challenges. Therefore Gerrard is right in not letting McCrorire leave. However, that would mean that negotiation regarding Kamara might stall but the ball is in the Dee’s court and time is running out for them to make some money on this deal as Rangers have already gotten their man for the future.
Gerrard has also signed Steven Davis from Southampton so he should be under no pressure to go after another midfielder especially when Kamara is also in a similar mould as other midfielders the manager already has at his disposal. Rangers are right in holding their ground with McCrorie and its Dundee who might have to make a move now if they want to sell Kamara this month.
