According to the latest reports from the Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard had plans to watch Charlton Atheltic striker Karlan Grant from close quarters as he had requested directors’ box tickets for the Valley. However, he wasn’t able to make it and had to scrap his plans to watch the player in person. Nevertheless, the manager sent someone else in his place to watch the young English striker. The same reports add that the Gers are looking to step up their pursuit of signing this forward.
Grant has represented England at the u-17 and 18 levels and he is seen as someone who is destined for big things in the future. The forward is in the final six months of his contract and Gerrard and Co are looking keen to land him as Grant could be available on a cut-price deal (Our opinion).
Championship outfit Brentford had put in a bid of £500,000 this month which was rejected (The Scottish Sun) by Charlton so Rangers might have to come up with a better offer than that. The Gers do have plenty of cover in the attacking department, especially after they signed Jermain Defoe in the ongoing transfer window.
To go with that, the Bears have also got Ryan Hardie who came back from loan from Livingston. So depth wise and even quality wise, we can say that the Gers are well covered in the attacking department.
However, reports earlier stated that Rangers are looking at Grant as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos. There might be a chance that the club sanctions a multi-million-pound sale for the Colombian in the future and this season could very well be last for the combative striker who has shone brightly so far. The striker has also maintained that moving to the Premier League is his dream and with the kind of form he has shown so far, an offer could be on the cards in the summer.
So maybe Gerrard already sees Grant as a replacement, and that is his reasoning behind signing him up in this window or on a pre-contract deal. Grant has shown impressive form this season as he has managed 14 goals and five assists in 27 League One encounters.
The forward has decent pace and finishing skills and once he gets used to the physicality of the Scottish Premiership, he can be a lethal striker to start up front. To go with that, Grant is still just 21 so he can take his game to the next level in a few years. The fact that Gerrard was himself ready to scout him shows the interest the Bears have in him and maybe we can see a deal for the striker happening in the future.
