Rangers have already secured the signature of Glen Kamara on a pre-contract deal which would make him a Rangers player at the end of this season. Reports from the Scottish Sun earlier indicated that Dundee boss Jim McIntyre was willing to sell him in January instead so that the Dee can land some cash which they can invest in reinforcing their squad.
Now latest reports from the Daily Record suggests that Rangers are open to this January switch and are now hoping to sign the former Arsenal midfielder this month. Steven Gerrard has once again shown his ambition in the transfer window as the Bears have been busy and have already pulled off deals for the likes of Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe.
Kamara came up through the ranks at the Gunners’ academy and managed to make one appearance for the English heavyweights before he was shipped to Scotland where he has become the mainstay of Dundee’s midfield. But, ever since the managerial change, the Finnish international has struggled a bit for game time, and his performances have been slightly below par this season.
However, the primary reason for that is McIntyre has tried using him in an advanced position which is not Kamara’s greatest strength and as a result, he has struggled a bit. As for Rangers pulling off this move, it likely depends on what kind of fee Dundee would demand this month as Rangers know they already have their man.
The Dee though could be eager to sell as they know they have nothing to gain from keeping hold of him. Now that Rangers too seem keen on this, the deal could go through in the next few days. It seems clear that Gerrard is gathering as much firepower as possible as he prepares to battle it out with Celtic for the Premiership title. The improvement is there for everyone to see as the Gers sit level on points with the Hoops having played a game more.
Kamara would be an ideal fit in a deeper role in midfield as he has decent ball carrying and pass picking abilities. The Finnish international might not have great pace, but he makes it up with his long limbs and can play the role of a midfield pivot to perfection.
Rangers are stocking up in every department and looking to break Celtic’s monopoly in the Scottish Premiership. A deal like this wouldn’t have made sense when the Gers had an in-form Lassana Coulibaly and Ovie Ejaria at their disposal, but at the moment, it would be decent business if the Bears manage to land Kamara in January for a nominal fee.
