West Ham United suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of AFC Wimbledon in their FA Cup fourth-round match at Kingsmeadow by 4-2. The hosts looked to dominate the proceedings from the word go and got their reward in the 34th minute with Kwesi Appiah opening the scoring. Scott Wagstaff delivered the goods for his side in the 41st and 46th minute to get the game completely away from the visitors. Toby Sibbick put the last nail on West Ham’s coffin with a late strike in the 88th minute to seal the match.
The two substitutes, Lucas Perez and Felipe Anderson, pulled two goals back but that was not enough to prevent West Ham from exiting this competition.
Here is how the West Ham United players were rated from their surprise defeat against AFC Wimbledon.
Adrian: 5
A night to forget for the backup custodian as he conceded four goals on the night. Could not do anything in case of any of the goals.
Michail Antonio: 4
Was an absolute disaster while defending and his runs up the pitch were not of much use.
Angelo Ogbonna: 5
Could do nothing to stop Wagstaff. Had a disappointing night.
Issa Diop: 6
Showed some fighting spirit in the second half after having a poor first 45 minutes.
Arthur Masuaku: 5
His defensive skills were put to the test by the Wimbledon attackers. Unfortunately, he could not pass the test and was a liability on the night.
Grady Diangana: 5
His darting runs with the ball were missing throughout the match. Was withdrawn in the second half.
Pedro Obiang: 4
An utterly disappointing performance from the Spaniard as he gave away the ball cheaply quite a few times before being substituted.
Mark Noble: 7
Kept the lion’s share of the ball possession in the midfield and threaded some delightful passes which his teammates could not take advantage of.
Robert Snodgrass: 5
Failed to deliver the ball in the right area. An unimpactful performance on the night.
Andy Carroll: 6
His physical presence kept the Wimbledon defenders under pressure initially, but he could not deliver the goods ultimately.
Javier Hernandez: 5
Nothing special from the Mexican international as he once again proved how essential Marko Arnautovic is for the east London side.
Substitutes
Lucas Perez: 6
Was a better option than Carroll in terms of goalscoring as he scored in the 57th minute to give the West Ham United fans some hope of an unlikely comeback.
Ryan Fredericks: 4
Made his long-awaited return to the pitch but was ineffective.
Felipe Anderson: 6
His sharp moves proved too good for the Wimbledon defenders. Scored a brilliant goal from a free kick in the 71st minute.
