According to a recent report by the Mirror, Manchester United are prepared to part ways with Marouane Fellaini during this January transfer window. The same report has also claimed that the Red Devils are looking to sell the Belgian international for a fee in the region of £15m this month.
Fellaini has been starved of first-team opportunities this season and has seen very little game time on the pitch since Ole Gunnar Solskjær arrived at Old Trafford as the club’s new interim boss last month. The 31-year-old talent only has a few years left in him to play at a high level, so he is in dire need of more game time if he wants to reignite his career in European football.
The Etterbeek born midfielder was Jose Mourinho’s biggest weapon off the bench earlier this campaign, but he has still not established himself as a first-team starter at the red half of Manchester.
Hence it only makes sense for both parties to part ways before the end of this month so that they can move on in search of more success in the coming years.
Fellaini has featured in 21 matches for Man United this term, scoring two goals while providing two assists across all competitions. He has also earned 87 international caps for the Belgian national team and has 18 goals for his nation to his name so far.
At 31, the former Everton star still has a lot to offer on the pitch especially because of his aerial prowess, so he shouldn’t have any problems securing a move to a new club. The Mirror has also revealed that AC Milan, Porto and Guangzhou Evergrande are interested in securing his services in January which should come as a piece of positive news for Solskjær.
The departure of Fellaini won’t affect United’s first-team too much, but it will undoubtedly deplete Solskjær’s squad as he aims to lead his players to a top 4 finish this season. The Red Devils should sell the Belgian big man as soon as possible so that they can use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad. However, they shouldn’t leave it too late in this window as United simply cannot afford to let Fellaini go without bringing in a proper replacement.
