According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United will face off in a three-way battle against arch rivals, Liverpool and the reigning European Champions, Real Madrid in pursuit of FC Porto defender, Eder Militao. The same report goes on to claim that the Brazilian right-back has a £42.5m release clause in his current contract with Porto which he penned last summer.
Ever since making a £3m switch from Sao Paulo in the previous transfer window, the 20-year-old has lit up the Liga NOS with a number of eye-catching displays in defence during the course of this campaign. Militao has been a regular presence for Porto this term with his form being particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League.
Militao has featured in 21 matches for the Portuguese giants this season and has two goals and two assists to his name across all competitions. At the tender age of 20, the talented defender has already earned his first international cap for the Brazilian national team in an international friendly match against El Salvador back in September last year.
The 20-year-old is destined for a very promising future in European football as long as he can keep his head down and work hard towards improving his game on the pitch.
It is no secret that the Red Devils are in need of a quality centre-back this month after the Mancunian outfit shipped in 32 goals in 21 league matches so far this season. Even under the new interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the United defenders have made some high-profile errors in recent games which need to be addressed as soon as possible.
Militao is a defensive powerhouse at the back due to his incredible athleticism and outstanding aerial prowess. He is also quite quick and agile which helps him cover a lot of ground when under pressure from the opposition attackers. However, the Brazilian youngster needs to work on his ball distribution if he wants to prove his value in the top tier of England.
The addition of Militao will undoubtedly bolster Solskjær’s defensive options at The Theatre of Dreams. The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo have all flattered to deceive after failing to establish themselves as first-team regulars at Old Trafford so the Brazilian defender might be a significant upgrade over any of them if he can handle the pressure and continue performing to the best of his abilities in England.
