Manchester City have bounced back from the rough patch they had hit towards the end of the last year and are looking to regain the top spot in the Premier League table once again. Currently, they are on the second position in the points table and are four points away from being on level terms with league leaders Liverpool.
With the January transfer market open already, there have been speculations about a number of players being linked with the reigning Premier League champions. One such and probably the biggest name of all is that of the Argentine superstar Paulo Dybala, who is currently playing for Juventus.
According to Mail Online, the 25-year-old forward is being eyed by some of the top clubs in Europe, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City. Speculations are rife that all three reigning champions of their domestic leagues have tabled bids for the Argentine forward, but Juventus are not ready to let him leave for anything under £90m.
It goes without saying that the addition of a player like Dybala would help the Citizens give their attack an extra edge. The Manchester City attackers have already performed brilliantly this season so far, and Dybala could be the cherry on the top for Pep Guardiola.
However, it would be a tough call for the Spanish gaffer to exclude someone like Leroy Sane or Raheem Sterling from the first team to accommodate the 25-year-old forward, who is currently playing second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus. Besides the aforementioned names, the likes of Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez have also performed well this season in their bits and pieces roles. Hence the inclusion of Dybala would make the competition for places very intense in the Manchester City ranks.
So it can be said that the Citizens would be better off not going for the Argentine superstar at the moment. They are currently pretty well stacked in the attacking department, with their main concern this season being the midfield and defence. A good investment in these two departments would bear sweeter fruits for the reigning Premier League champions in the future.
With Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan missing matches on a frequent basis due to their injury worries and the likes of Fernandinho and David Silva looking to hang up their boots shortly, the City midfield is in dire need of reinforcements and Guardiola would not be unaware of that. He has seen his team face moments of crisis with the trio of De Bruyne, Silva and Fernandinho not playing together enough and should be looking to bring in players good enough to fill in for them and stabilise the midfield.
In the defensive department as well, the likes of Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have failed to replicate the form of the last season and a few new faces are the need of the hour for the Citizens. So it would be a wise decision for the Spaniard to spend the money wisely and make sure they beef up every department equally to maintain the balance of their side.
