According to a recent report by the Mirror, Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Nicolás Acevedo who plays for Liverpool of Montevideo. The same report has also revealed that the Reds have sent scouts to catch him in action for Uruguay in the South American Under-20 Championship which is being held in Chile.
The Mirror has also claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Norwich City in pursuit of the Uruguayan wonderkid.
The 19-year-old is highly versatile as he can operate as a centre-back as well as in midfield. He is currently playing football back in his homeland and is representing his nation in the South American Under-20 Championship.
Acevedo has incredible potential and could be nurtured into a world-class talent in a few years time. However, the teenager has not experienced football outside South America so it will be a huge gamble for any European club to opt for his talents in the near future.
The Liverpool FC Montevideo Under-19 prospect has made four appearances in the Primera Division Clausura this season and has one assist to his name so far. He is a good defender who can make well-timed challenges at the back, but what makes the youngster stand out is his ability to play the ball out from the back.
Acevedo has all the attributes to become a successful defensive player in the coming years. The addition of someone of the Uruguayan’s potential will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s defensive options at Anfield in a few years time. The Reds are always looking to build for the future under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group, who have built a reputation for working towards sustained success over a prolonged period of time.
Hence, it is no surprise to see a top team like Liverpool interested in recruiting one of the best talents in South American football. Moreover, the Merseyside club will have an edge over any of their competitors as Acevedo is currently playing for Liverpool Futbol Club who have modelled themselves on the famous Reds of Anfield. The Montevideo born talent will be a player to look out for in the future so Klopp should continue monitoring his development in South America.
