According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Liverpool are currently in talks with Brescia over a potential deal to bring Sandro Tonali to Merseyside. La Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist, Nicolo Schira shed some light on the development and made a post on Twitter which was later translated by the Daily Star. His tweet read, “Liverpool has opened talks for Sandro Tonali.
“Reds scout has watched him in BresciaSpezia today.
“Cellino wants for the young midfielder (born in 2000) €35M.
“Rome, Juventus, Milan and Inter also heavily interested for the next season.”
The Serie B teenager has been dubbed as the ‘new Andrea Pirlo’ following a string of promising displays for Brescia during this season which has also seen him be rewarded with a place in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad last year. However, he was an unused substitute and is yet to play for his country but has earned 11 caps for Italy’s Under-19 team.
Tonali came through the youth ranks of Brescia before going on to feature for their first-team at the start of 2018. The 18-year-old wonderkid has featured in 19 matches for the Italian outfit this term, scoring two goals while grabbing five assists in the Serie B.
The Serie B player is still quite a raw talent, but there are only a few better managers than Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to mentor and nurture him into a world-class midfielder in the coming years.
The Italian starlet has a wide passing range while his ball distribution skills from midfield have been second to none in the Serie B so far in this campaign. He also possesses outstanding ball control which helps him dominate possession in midfield for Brescia.
Tonali’s addition would undoubtedly bolster Liverpool’s youth teams which are also brimming with talents such as Ki-Jana Hoever, Bobby Duncan and Rhian Brewster. A potential move for the Italian youngster will fit the club’s owner, Fenway Sports Group’s aims of developing young players into long-term assets for the organisation. With promising prospects such as Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Ovie Ejaria all set to return from their respective loan spells next summer, the Merseyside team’s future is looking quite bright and vibrant with so many talents coming through the club’s illustrious Academy.
Hence, Klopp should consider bringing the teenager to Anfield. However, there are still some question marks regarding Tonali’s ability to adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.
