Liverpool have announced on their official website that their Scottish left-back Andrew Robertson has penned a new, long-term deal with the club. The Reds defender has been a real revelation at Anfield since making a switch from Hull City Tigers in the summer of 2017.
He initially struggled to secure regular game time under Jurgen Klopp, but once he got his opportunity to impress in the Liverpool first-team, the 24-year-old took his chance with both hands (or feet if that is what you prefer).
Robertson is now Liverpool’s undisputed number one for the left-back position and has arguably been one of the club’s best players this season. He has come leaps and bounds from his days in the Scottish Premiership when he used to play for teams such as Queen’s Park and Dundee United.
The Scottish captain has been in a rich vein of form of late and has already put in some eye-catching displays for the Reds down the left flank during this campaign. He has made 26 appearances for Klopp’s team this term and has six assists to his name across all competitions. The Dundee born prospect has also secured 28 international caps for the Scottish national team and has scored two goals for his country so far.
Robertson is a tireless worker who is always willing to go that extra mile for his team. He has enough pace in his locker to make some lung-bursting runs down the wide areas. He also has the ability to beat his maker and deliver some dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box. The Scottish full-back does not have any weaknesses in his game as such, and that is what makes him such a valuable asset for the Merseyside outfit.
The Reds are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League standings with a healthy four-point advantage over Manchester City in the title race. Robertson has played an integral member in the Reds’ title charge so far, and we can expect him to keep up the same level of consistency throughout the rest of this campaign.
With the Liverpool defensive ace penning a new deal at the club, the future looks bright under Klopp who is looking to build a dynasty at Anfield over the next few years. It might just turn out to be a good move for all parties as the Scottish talent still has a lot to improve and learn at the red half of Merseyside.
