According to the latest reports from Russian media outlet Championat, Leeds United have submitted a massive £10.5m bid for Spartak Moscow striker Ze Luis. This could be seen as a top signing for the Whites. However, the Cape Verde international is an important player for the Russian outfit, and the same reports add that Spartak Moscow have no interest in selling him even after this massive bid.
However, it’s bizarre of Leeds United to submit such a considerable bid for a striker. There are not many positions where the club is well covered in terms of depth and quality. But, the striking department is one area where Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t have many headaches. Kemar Roofe has led the line with aplomb, and he is one of the first players on the team sheet every time Leeds United play a competitive fixture.
Apart from that, they also signed Patrick Bamford in the summer of 2018 for big money. The Englishman has struggled with injuries but still remains an important player and he is set to be back soon. Also, the club has Tyler Roberts who showed promising signs when Roofe and Bamford were out with injuries. So Bielsa has three decent strikers in his repertoire.
Ze Luis though could be a great addition if one keeps the money aspect aside. The 27-year-old has everything to his game which a no. 9 needs as he is quick, strong in the air and has a physical presence up top. Moreover, he has top-notch finishing skills as well, and he is a complete package.
Spartak Moscow are already not interested in selling, and we don’t think Leeds would come up with another offer given the initial bid is already over £10m. The Whites need to add reinforcements in other departments as they lack depth in midfield and the wide regions.
It is interesting to add that Ze Luis can even play as a left winger when required so maybe Bielsa and Co are looking to utilise this forward as a winger. However, he is at his best when starting up front and playing him out wide would curb the other aspects of his game.
It is challenging to make out how much truth is there in this report as the bid came out of nowhere and that too a big one. Maybe the club have been planning about this move for quite some time and had kept it under wraps, or this could turn out to be all bogus in the next few days. Ze Luis is a top talent, but given the price tag, United could be priced out of a move.
