According to the reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are set to seal the deal for Ruch Chorzow’s Polish sensation Mateusz Bogusz. The 17-year-old recently posted an Instagram story where he indicated that he is flying to England soon and the youngster is going to have his medical today at Elland Road.
This is going to be United’s second signing of this window as they had earlier secured the services of Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid. The Poland u-17 international is considered as one of the top talents to come out of his country in recent times, and the Whites are going to have a gem on their hands given the rave reviews the player has so far received for his performances.
Leeds United are currently one of the best teams for any youngster to join as Marcelo Bielsa has shown that he is willing to trust them and give them responsibilities. The likes of Jack Clarke, Aapo Halme, William Huffer and Jamie Shackleton have broken through to the senior squad, and the manager has stuck with them even after the injury crisis passed.
Therefore one shouldn’t be surprised if Bogusz starts making senior team appearances from this season onwards. The 17-year-old was a regular for the Polish outfit and had 20 appearances to his name in all competitions this season. Typically a central midfielder, Bogusz can be deployed in various roles in midfield, and it would be interesting to see what kind of role Bielsa gives him.
It would be foolish to expect big things from the youngster straight away, and it is likely that he is being looked up as a future prospect. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if he starts getting into matchday squads and goes on to make an appearance as he has the talent and skill to handle himself in the Championship.
Not too long ago, former Leeds United scout Jakub Bokiej also posted his views on the signing on Twitter and said, ”Great signing for Leeds United. One of the most promising youth players in Poland.”
After the departure of Lewis Baker and Samuel Saiz, it was imperative for the club to add options in midfield. The fans would have wanted to see a more established name coming in, maybe someone who would have made an instant impact in the first eleven. However, Bogusz can turn out to be an interesting prospect and the club would hope that he would follow in the footsteps of Jack Clarke who is having a breakthrough season at the age of 18.
