According to a recent report by the Mirror, Liverpool are set to be snubbed by Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi after the Merseyside outfit attempted to make a late move to bring him to Anfield during this January transfer period. In another report by the Sun, it has been mentioned that the London born talent has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich despite Liverpool’s interest in acquiring his services this month.
This recent development will be a huge blow to Jurgen Klopp’s hopes of landing the Pensioners wonderkid. Hudson-Odoi has been starved of first-team opportunities under Maurizio Sarri this season which has put his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt. The 18-year-old talent made his way up the Chelsea youth ranks but has still not managed to establish himself as a regular first-team starter at the West London club.
He has just featured in 10 matches for the Pensioners this term, registering one goal while creating three assists in all competitions. The lack of game time has seriously deterred his progress at Stamford Bridge, so this window could be the ideal opportunity for him to secure an escape route away from London in search of more first-team opportunities.
Hudson-Odoi has represented England at every youth level from Under-16 onwards and was one of the stars of the England Under-17 side during their 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup triumph in India.
The Chelsea starlet boasts blistering pace and is a very productive dribbler with the ball down the flanks. He is also quite direct with his runs and is not afraid to take on his marker in the opposition half. However, the English speedster is still a raw talent and needs to be nurtured well over the next few years if he wants to fulfil his real potential.
The fact remains that even if Hudson-Odoi decided to move to Anfield, there was no guarantee that he would get regular game time under Klopp. In such a scenario, a switch to Bayern Munich makes more sense for him as the German giants are in dire need of a new winger with both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery slowing down with each game as they are in the twilight years of their football careers.
Hence, it might be a clever move for Hudson-Odoi to snub Liverpool in favour of a switch to Munich while the Reds can now concentrate on the Premier League title charge and not think about recruiting new players until next summer.
