Everton played hosts to Leicester City earlier today looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion. The Toffees dominated possession in the first half but were denied by some resolute Leicester defending. Both teams fought hard but went in level at half-time.
Claude Puel’s men began the second half with a bit more attacking approach, and they successfully managed to capitalise on a Michael Keane mistake which put Jamie Vardy through on goal who made no mistake from close range to give the away side the lead in the 58th minute. Marco Silva’s team tried to come up with a response but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. The match ended with the Foxes coming out on top with a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 5/10
The English keeper was poor with his ball distribution and couldn’t do much to stop the Jamie Vardy goal.
RB: Jonjoe Kenny – 6/10
He was a good outlet for the Merseyside club down the right flank, but his impact on the game faded as the match went on.
CB: Michael Keane – 3/10
The Everton centre-back made way too many errors during the match and was one of the primary reasons for his team’s downfall. His mistake led to the Vardy goal, much to the annoyance of the home supporters.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 6.5/10
He commanded his own penalty area well and covered a lot of ground to bail his centre-back partner time and time again.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6/10
The French full-back was always looking to join in on the attack but lacked the final delivery in decisive situations.
CM: André Gomes – 5.5/10
It was a very average performance from the Portuguese midfielder. His passes were often inaccurate while he also failed to make an impact going forward.
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 7/10
Gueye worked hard for Everton and was full of energy even when his team was chasing the game in the second half. The Toffees needed more characters like him on the day, but unfortunately, no one else stepped up.
RM: Theo Walcott – 5/10
The English speedster was mostly ineffective during his time on the pitch. He never looked like scoring which will be a cause for concern.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5/10
Not the best day for the Icelandic international. Sigurdsson lacked the quality in the attacking end of the pitch and didn’t offer much ammunition from midfield later on.
LM: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian talent battled hard and caused a few problems inside the Foxes’ penalty box. However, he couldn’t find the finishing touch when the chances fell in his path.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5/10
He was hardly a threat inside the Leicester penalty box. Marco Silva needs to drop him soon if he continues to put in performances like this.
Substitutes:
CAM: Bernard – 4/10
He was guilty of giving away possession on quite a few occasions.
ST: Cenk Tosun – 6.5/10
The Turkish forward tested Kasper Schmeichel with a powerful shot and earned a dangerous free-kick for Everton.
