Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium this weekend after winning three successive matches across all competitions. Spurs are flying high at the moment but will come across a dangerous United side who have turned their fortunes around for the better under their interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær in recent weeks.
The North London outfit will need to be at their best if they are to claim maximum points from this encounter. Mauricio Pochettino will likely opt for a 4-4-2 formation and play with a midfield diamond to get the best out of his players on Sunday.
4-4-2 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Hugo Lloris is expected to get another start for Spurs after he kept a clean sheet against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day. The French goalie has lost his place in the cup competitions to Paulo Gazzaniga so he would be desperate to perform well in the league to prove that he is still the undisputed number one keeper for Spurs.
Both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez could operate at the heart of the Tottenham defence as they look to keep the Man United attackers at bay this weekend. Jan Vertonghen will not feature in this match due to injury, but Juan Foyth should be available on the bench.
Kieran Trippier is expected to get the nod ahead of Serge Aurier to start at right-back while Danny Rose would look to put in a solid shift on the other side of Pochettino’s defence. The Tottenham backline needs to have a dominant game if they are to stop the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard from scoring on Sunday.
Midfield
Harry Winks will be deployed in a holding midfield role while both Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko looks to be more creative in the opposition half. Dele Alli is expected to play a free-flowing role in midfield behind the Spurs forwards so we can expect the Englishman to make some late runs into the Man United box and cause problems for Solskjær’s defenders.
Attack
Pochettino might opt for the striking pairing of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to lead the lines for the home team up top. Both forwards have been enjoying a rich vein of form in front of goal so they will be tasked with scoring the goals that will make the difference in this contest.
