According to a recent tweet by Dail Mail’s Dominic King, Liverpool will not go back for Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Nabil Fekir again. The Mirror had recently stated that some bookmakers had slashed the odds on the French talent sealing a switch to Merseyside which had sparked a lot of speculation surrounding the player’s future. However, using Twitter, Dominic King confirmed that there was no interest from the Reds to sign the Lyon playmaker during the January transfer window or in the summer.
He said, “Some bookmakers are offering prices on Nabil Fekir joining Liverpool and suggesting “odds are tumbling”. It’s absolute garbage,”
“Let’s be clear for one last time – Nabil Fekir is not a Liverpool target. He will not be a target again. Liverpool won’t sign anyone this month.”

It is no surprise from King’s words that Liverpool are not interested in signing Fekir mainly because not much has changed since the summer. Fekir has been quite impressive for Lyon this season, but Liverpool have also done well without the services of the Frenchman after some clever recruitments last year. The fact that the Reds are sitting 4 points clear at the top of the Premier League table proves that Jurgen Klopp does not necessarily need to make any significant changes in January. So it is highly unlikely that the Merseyside club will attempt to bring in a big-name player during this window as it would heap even more pressure on the Reds in the race for the Premier League title.
Fekir has featured in 17 matches for the Ligue 1 giants this term, scoring seven goals while grabbing four assists in all competitions. His excellent record during this campaign proves that the 25-year-old can be one of the most productive front players in Europe if he can stay fit and healthy, which is clearly something that Klopp has had doubts over in the recent past.
Hence, it makes little sense for Liverpool to go back in for the player when they are not sure whether Fekir would be able to cope with the physical demands of Premier League football. Klopp has a strong squad at his disposal, and with a number of key players set to come back from the respective injuries over the coming weeks, there is no reason why Liverpool need to delve into the transfer market in search of new players.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” seems to be the mantra at Anfield these days and so Klopp should continue concentrating on matters on the pitch. However, not opting to sign Fekir might come back to haunt Liverpool if he can stay fit and become one of the best players in Europe over the next few years. Until then, all evidence point towards Klopp making the right call for his team in the short-term.
