Derby County held Southampton to a 2-2 draw in the third round of the FA Cup game, and both teams are set to meet this week for a replay. The Rams are coming on the back of a defeat against Leeds United where they were thoroughly outplayed as the ‘spy-gate’ controversy marred the game.
On the other hand, the Saints should feel confident about getting the job done this time around in front of their home fans. They beat a much-fancied Leicester City side last weekend after being down to 10 men, and Ralph Hasenhüttl should be confident of seeing off a second tier side. However, Derby would be looking to pull off an upset, and that is where the charm of the FA Cup lies.
Team News
Harry Wilson’s situation is still uncertain, but Lampard hasn’t ruled him out entirely from this game. So there is still hope of the Liverpool loanee playing a part in this knockout game. Mason Bennett (hamstring), Marcus Olsson (knee), Craig Forsyth (knee) and Curtis Davies (Achilles) are going to be unavailable. Scott Malone has recovered from his groin injury and was on the bench in the last game.
Derby County predicted lineup Vs Southampton
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Former England goalkeeper Scott Carson is set to continue in goal for the Rams. Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori are once again likely to continue as the centre back pairing. The Rams have looked vulnerable at the back, and the defensive duo must have a perfect game for the away side to go through to the next round.
Andre Wisdom could be expected to start down the right in this tie. Young Max Lowe is likely to play in the left back position.
Midfield
Craig Bryson was poor in the last game so he could be dropped for this tie. Tom Huddlestone can get a look into the team as he didn’t play any part in the previous fixture. Mason Mount is a nailed on starter in midfield, and the Chelsea loanee has become a crucial player this season for Lampard. He should start. George Evans is likely to keep his place in midfield. Even if Harry Wilson is fit, we don’t see Lampard risking him to start the game. Maybe he can come on as an impact substitute later on.
Attack
Florian Jozefzoon should start on the right flank. Wales international Tom Lawrence is expected to begin on the left. Summer signing Jack Marriott is likely to lead the line for the Rams.
