Everton are in dire need of getting back to winning ways in the Premier League, having won only one of their last eight outings in the competition. However, they have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win over Lincoln City and would hope to carry their winning form in the Premier League as well.
The Toffees despite starting the season on a decent note, have been bogged down by a number of problems in their squad. Though their defence and attack have been out of sorts in recent times, their midfield has held steady under the influence of Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Gomes.
However, once these two have been off the pitch owing to injuries, there has been complete mayhem in the Everton midfield with Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin finding it difficult to cope up against the opposition.
According to the Portuguese news outlet A Bola, as cited by Team Talk, the Toffees are looking to add a viable backup to their midfield department. They are reportedly keen on bringing in the Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes but are set to face competition from arch rivals Liverpool in pursuit of the Sporting Lisbon player.
Marco Silva has faced a lot of trouble in recent times due to the absence of both Gomes and Gueye, who have been struggling with their injury worries. The need of the hour is a suitable player who can hold the midfield for the Toffees and initiate attacks.
In the absence of both Gomes and Gueye, Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin have found it difficult to have the same impact, which has not helped the cause of the Toffees. The situation has been so dire that Silva had to deploy attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in a defensive role, but that also failed to work for him.
The addition of Burno Fernandes would not only help them boost their midfield but also improve the side with a genuine goalscorer who can find the back of the net from a variety of the ranges. His physicality and agility could come very handy for any side, and it would be the right throw of the dice for Marco Silva if he can land his compatriot this month. Also, the fact that the player is available on a cut-price deal as Sporting are facing financial problems could be the best chance for the Toffees to get their hands on the much sought after transfer target.
