According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Everton are ready to make a £40m bid to secure the services of Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea during this January transfer window. The same report has also revealed that the Toffees boss Marco Silva is eager to bring the Belgian international to Goodison Park and is prepared to splash the cash to do so.
Batshuayi recently had a poor loan spell with Valencia where he failed to impress after only managing to score three goals during his time at the Mestalla Stadium. However, he has now returned to Chelsea with his future quite uncertain at Stamford Bridge, to say the least.
The Belgian prospect needs to earn more game time on the pitch if he wants to get his career back on track in England. The Brussels born talent showed glimpses of his brilliance after initially arriving at West London in the summer of 2016. He has scored 19 goals in 53 matches under Antonio Conte’s stewardship but has not got a fair shot at Chelsea under Sarri so far.
However, there are some concerns regarding his fitness as he has looked like a shadow of his former self while playing for Valencia this season.
Batshuayi is a powerful centre-forward who knows how to hold the ball up and get others into play. He is also a good finisher inside the opposition penalty box but has lacked sharpness in recent matches. The Belgian frontman knows what it takes to win in England after lifting the Premier League and the FA Cup with the Pensioners.
However, the arrival of Sarri has changed his situation at the West London club, and so it might be a good move for all parties if he ends up moving to Goodison Park this month. The addition of Batshuayi will undoubtedly bolster Marco Silva’s attacking options at the blue half of Merseyside. Everton have currently got some underperforming forwards in their ranks with Richarlison, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all struggling to score goals on a consistent basis this season.
The potential acquisition of the Belgian forward would increase more competition for places within the Toffees squad and add some much-needed firepower up top.
