According to a recent report by Marca, Everton were prepared to match RCD Espanyol forward Borja Iglesias’s release clause of £25m (€28m) during this January transfer window. However, the Spaniard has rejected a chance to move to Goodison Park this month as he intends to stay with Espanyol at least until the end of this current campaign.
Since his switch from Real Zaragoza last summer, the 25-year-old has lit up the RCDE Stadium with a number of match-winning displays during the course of this campaign. He has found the back of the net nine times in 21 matches for the Spanish outfit so far which has enhanced his reputation in European football.
However, with the Toffees set to miss out on the striker, let’s take a look at three alternative options for Marco Silva to consider during this ongoing transfer period.
Krzysztof Piatek
The Polish striker has experienced an excellent run of form for Genoa this season after scoring a hatful of goals for them so far. Piatek has found the back of the net 19 times in 20 appearances for the Serie A side across multiple competitions which includes his four-goal haul in the Coppa Italia encounter against Lecce. He is quite prolific in front of goal and could be an excellent acquisition for Everton if they decide to bring him to Merseyside this month.
Jamie Vardy
At the age of 32, the English forward is still going strong and could be considered as one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League. Vardy has proven his worth at the highest level for the past few years so he would be a low-risk, short-term solution to Silva’s attacking problems at Goodison Park.
Kevin Volland
The German forward has enjoyed a great run of form at Bayer 04 Leverkusen this season. He might be a perfect fit for Marco Silva’s style of football at Goodison Park as he is a proper old-fashioned target man who can hold the ball up and get others into play.
Everton have still not replaced Romelu Lukaku since the Belgian moved to Manchester United back in 2017 so Volland could be an option for them if they fancy giving him a shot at the top tier of England.
