Everton suffered another disappointing result in their last match against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium as they went down by 2-1. This defeat pushes the Toffees to the 11th spot in the points table as they have now lost five of the last seven Premier League games.
Marco Silva’s men have lacked composure in almost every department this season but their biggest setback has come in the attacking department with their strikers not being able to find the back of the net on a regular basis. While players like Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have not been able to make it into the starting eleven with their disappointing displays, Richarlison has failed to remain consistent while leading the line. This has put the pressure on the Toffees to find a new player to take the attack to the opposition.
According to The Sun, the Toffees are keeping their tabs on the Manchester City starlet Rabbi Matondo, who has been one of the most highly rated youngsters in his current club ranks. Predominantly a right winger, the 18-year-old has earned rave reviews from all over Europe for his brilliant displays and has reportedly attracted attention from the German giants Bayern Munich as well.
The likes of Bernard and Theo Walcott have also not been in the best of forms this season, making it more difficult for the Portuguese gaffer to find the right combination to beef up his attack. The inclusion of a versatile player like Matondo would not only provide him with an option to press the opposition more from the wide areas but also a decent backup for Richarlison up front.
The player has been one of those rare ones who has earned a place in their national team without playing a single match for his club’s senior side. Matondo has already been called up to represent the Wales national team. The Citizens are well stacked in their attack, and it would be a wise decision for the player to look elsewhere for opportunities and this is where a possible move to Everton comes into the fray.
The Toffees already have a young and exuberant player like Ademola Lookman in their ranks and the inclusion of another youngster in the form of Matondo would help them get that much-needed flair in their attack, which has been missing from the Everton attack so far this season. However, his inexperience of playing in the Premier League might prove to be a detriment for Silva in making a move for Matondo in the January transfer window.
However, if they could land a player of his quality, it would be an excellent acquisition for the Toffees. With his abilities to score goals from a variety of ranges and deceive the opposition defenders with his classy footwork, it could be a risk worth taking for Silva.
