According to Russian news outlet RT, Zenit St Petersburg striker Artem Dzyuba might be on his way to Everton this January. The Toffees lack serious firepower up front, and the Russian forward could be just the solution for the manager Marco Silva.
The 30-year-old was in decent form during Russia’s World Cup campaign as the hosts made it into the quarter-final stage of the tournament by beating former World champions Spain. Dzyuba notched up three goals and in the process earned rave reviews from a number of experts from all over Europe.
Everton have not been able to capitalise on the momentum they gained at the start of the season under their current manager Marco Silva, and that has pushed them down the league table in the 11th position. The Toffees have scored 34 goals this season so far, with Richarlison doing the bulk of the scoring for them.
However, the Brazilian has found the back of the net only once in the last seven outings, which shows the dire condition of the strike force the Merseyside club have at their disposal.
Dzyuba has been in decent form this season for his club Zenit as he has scored ten goals so far in 23 matches. He has also been a team player and has notched up seven assists. The Russian could be an excellent acquisition for Marco Silva if he can land him in the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old would also help the Portuguese gaffer in using Richarlison as a winger, which is his natural position. Let us not underestimate the importance of allowing Richarlison to play in his favourite place. However, the fact that the player has no prior experience of playing in the Premier League might be a detriment for the Toffees in making a move for the Russian star.
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has spent a lot of money on players in the last couple of seasons. Most of those players have not been able to show their real potential in the Premier League, including the Turkish striker Cenk Tosun. This time around, he should be more careful and take a calculated risk by investing in a player like Dzyuba, whose physicality and goalscoring ability have proved to be a menace for the opposition defence in the recent years, whether on the international scene or at the club level.
