Everton faced a disappointing end to their trophy hopes for the season with an exit in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Toffees were defeated 3-2 in a hard-fought affair away from home against Millwall. However, they should look to put this behind them and try to end their season on a respectable position in the Premier League table.
The Toffees are yet to make any signings this January, and from the look of things, they are in ardent need of inspiration upfront. The Merseyside club are reportedly eyeing a few new faces with Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr on the top of their transfer wishlist.
According to French news outlet Wiwsport.com, the Toffees are set to send their representatives to the next match between Stade Rennais and Paris Saint Germain to keep an eye on the 20-year-old forward. The player arrived at the Ligue 1 club in the last term and had become one of their mainstays since then.
The player has scored nine goals so far for Rennais in all competitions and has attracted the attention of a number of clubs. He has also established himself as the perfect team player and has notched up six crucial assists for his side this season so far. Everton could utilise this versatile player as a winger as well as a striker if they can land him.
With the likes of Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin not being able to score freely this term, Richarlison has had to do the bulk of the scoring by playing as a centre-forward. He has not received much assistance from Bernard and Theo Walcott as well, with the duo looking under par this season.
The inclusion of Sarr would help Marco Silva get a new player to lead his attack and play on the wings. The performance of the young Senegalese winger has been inspirational this season, and he could provide the Portuguese manager with a solution for his woes while forming Everton’s attack. He could also relieve Richarlison from the duty of playing as a striker and share in his workload as well.
However, the fact that the player has no prior experience of playing in the Premier League might go against him in Everton’s pursuit to land him. Going by his current form, he might turn out to be a handy addition to the Toffees lineup. His darting runs down the flanks, and his ability to score goals from a variety of ranges could make him a risk worth taking for Marco Silva this January.
