According to a recent report by the Derby Telegraph, Derby County are one of the clubs looking to sign Tyrone Mings on a loan deal before the ongoing transfer window comes to a close next Thursday.
However, the same report has also revealed that a potential move to Pride Park seems unlikely at this moment considering Frank Lampard’s team will face stiff competition from the likes of Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest in pursuit of the Premier League centre-back.
The 25-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by under Eddie Howe this season with most of his appearances coming from the bench. Mings has featured in just seven matches for the Cherries this term across all competitions so far. So he needs to go out on loan soon or else risk being a constant presence in Bournemouth’s bench throughout the remainder of this campaign.
The Rams can benefit from bringing in a player of Mings’ experience as he will add a lot of quality to Lampard’s backline which could help them in their fight to secure a playoff place at the end of this season.
Mings is vastly experienced in the lower leagues of English football having played for clubs such as Southampton, Bristol Rovers, Yate Town, Chippenham and Ipswich Town prior to his move to the Vitality Stadium in the summer of 2015.
The addition of a reliable defender like Mings will undoubtedly bolster Lampard’s midfield options at Pride Park. The East Midlands outfit have currently got the likes of Richard Keogh, Fikayo Tomori, Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom vying for a place in the Rams first-team. The potential acquisition of Mings on a loan deal will not only be an upgrade over any of the current centre-half options at Lampard’s disposal but will also add more competition for places within the Derby squad.
At 25, the Cherries centre-back is about to embark upon the peak years of his career so Lampard would benefit from bringing in his services for the remainder of this season as the battle to finish in one of the coveted top 2 automatic promotion places of the EFL Championship heats up.
