Leeds United are still leading the race to make a Premier League return after 15 years in the wilderness, but at the same time, should keep their focus on the remaining league games despite certain limitations on and off the field. Injuries have halted the Whites time and again from building up momentum and Marcelo Bielsa must be concerned now amidst the infamous ‘Spygate’ row followed by a defeat to Stoke City in a crucial Championship tie.
Although Bielsa waved it off initially, the gaffer later outlined the necessity of exploring the transfer market to cope up with injuries and winter exits. The signing of veteran Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid is indeed a strong statement of intent, but the iconic Argentine is also focusing on the youth development and closing in on 17-year-old midfield sensation Mateusz Bogusz, according to the Yorkshire Evening Sport.
The teenager has flourished through the academy ranks of Ruch Chorzów who are currently competing in the third tier of Poland. Bogusz, however, was promoted to their senior side last season but grabbed attention this term due to his impact while operating as a midfield attacker. He has found the net six times so far and exhibited his exquisite passing and shooting skills before leaving the group to join the Whites as confirmed via the club’s official website.
Bogusz would be the third footballer from Poland within the current squad behind Mateusz Klich and Kamil Miazek, but unlikely to be handed a first-team start immediately. However, the earlier interest from Napoli and Brighton (as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post) denotes how highly he is rated by the scouts who monitored his progress minutely in the recent months.
The youngster is best suited as a ‘number 10′ but shifts to a wide role frequently to take part in the build-ups. He has a great vision, finds the right pass, and also splits the opponents’ set-up with his crosses and through balls. The creativity he injects would be key for Leeds but the player must keep up his excellent work to be a success in a new environment.
Bielsa is hailed for nurturing and promoting the youth throughout his illustrious career. This should motivate Bogusz to improve his game and eventually secure a starting role within a couple of years.
The Whites are already hit by the egress of Samuel Saiz whereas veteran Pablo Hernandez, now 33, is at the twilight of his playing career. Roping in the Poland U19 international deserves massive appreciation as he holds all attributes to shine for years to come.
