According to a recent report by the Metro, Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Guingamp forward Marcus Thuram, who is the son of former World Cup winner, Lillian Thuram. The same report has also revealed that the Gunners will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Ligue 1 talent.
The French youngster has been a real revelation for Guingamp after putting in a number of eye-catching displays in the Ligue 1 during this campaign. The 21-year-old has scored eight goals and grabbed one assist in 15 appearances for the French outfit this term in all competitions.
Thuram grew up playing football for FC Sochaux and came through the youth ranks before finally establishing himself in their first-team. He made a switch to Guingamp in the summer of 2017 and had risen to prominence at the Stade de Roudourou over the past year.
At 21, he has also earned a lot of international experience after representing France at every youth level from Under-17 onwards. The Parma born prospect has a very promising future in European football, so the Gunners would do well to secure his services in the near future.
Thuram is quite quick and can make some clever runs with the ball at his feet. He has also developed himself into an accomplished goal-scorer as evidenced by his stellar goal-scoring record this season. However, the French wonderkid is still a raw talent who needs to improve at all aspects of his game to make the cut at the highest level.
Unai Emery has a massive rebuilding job in his hands so the acquisition of Thuram could potentially be the first step towards a bigger and brighter future at the Emirates Stadium. The Guingamp sensation is exceptionally talented and could thrive under Emery’s expert guidance at the North London club.
Having said that, it is difficult to see how he will get regular game time at Arsenal with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyng and Alexandre Lacazette already fighting for a place up top in Emery’s starting XI. However, there is no doubt that he would be a fantastic addition for the Gunners if they can find a way to lure the French starlet to make a move to North London in the coming months.
