Manchester City dished out a stellar performance at the St Mary’s Stadium in their last outing as they got the better of the hosts, Southampton by 1-3. However, they are set to face the biggest challenge in their way of retaining the Premier League title when they take on the league leaders Liverpool in their next match.
The Reds have been in red-hot form this season and are yet to lose a match in the Premier League. In their last game against Arsenal, they took the Gunners’ defence to the sword and slotted five goals past them. Jurgen Klopp’s men would look to repeat the same when they face the reigning champions in their own backyard.
Team News
Pep Guardiola’s side have been bogged down by injuries to a number of key players so far this season with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Fabian Delph and Bernard Mendy all sidelined. However, De Bruyne and Gundogan are recovering from their injuries and would be assessed ahead of the top of the table clash.
Goalkeeper
After letting in five goals in two matches against Crystal Palace and Leicester City, Ederson had a decent outing against the Saints in the last game. He would be starting in goal for the Citizens with the arduous task of keeping the Liverpool strikers at bay.
Defence
In absence of both Mendy and Delph, Oleksandr Zinchenko would start in the left back position. Kyle Walker would put in a shift from the right while John Stones and Aymeric Laporte would guard the heart of the defence.
Midfield
Kevin De Bruyne is still in doubt to play against Liverpool, which would allow Bernardo Silva to start in the midfield alongside David Silva. Fernandinho would start right behind the duo as the defensive midfielder.
Attack
Sergio Aguero would lead the line for the Citizens against the Reds. Raheem Sterling would accompany him as the wide attacker from the left while Riyad Mahrez would get the nod ahead of Leroy Sane to start on the right.
Predicted Formation: 4-3-3
