Leeds United might sit on the top of the table, but there are definitely some major weak areas in their squad. The injuries have taken a massive toll on them, and academy players have had to step up at some point or the other. Amongst all this, latest reports confirm that Lewis Baker is joining Reading after Chelsea decided to cut short his loan spell as he wasn’t getting much playing time.
Baker was not making significant strides into the starting eleven at Elland Road, but at least he was a viable option as a backup. Given the current situation, the Whites are finding it hard to even get a full squad out for the match days.
What makes this even worse is now Pablo Hernandez is injured and could be a doubt for the next few games. Mateusz Klich has looked jaded for quite some time as he has been playing regularly and the Whites should probably look to sign a midfielder in this window. Here are two signings Bielsa could look to make in January.
Nick Powell
The Latics man could be the best signing that the Whites can pull off this month as he should suit Bielsa’s playing style. Powell has bee the creative driving force of the Wigan Athletic side for quite some time now, and the Whites should definitely look to pull off a deal for him this month. Powell is more attacking in nature and likes to play in central areas, and that would also allow Pablo Hernandez to shift towards his more natural position, i.e., the right flank.
The playmaker was even linked (The Express) with a move to Leeds United in the 2018 summer transfer window, and maybe the Whites can chance their arm once again.
Bradley Dack
Dack has been simply outstanding for the Rovers this season as he has managed 13 goals and seven assists in all competitions, playing in an advanced role in midfield.
There is no doubt that he is an integral member of the current Blackburn Rovers side and as a result, the Whites might struggle to lure him. However, the fact that they are so well placed to move to the Premier League might tempt the attacking midfielder to move to Leeds United.
