According to Marca, as mentioned in a recent report by talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have lined up Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio as a replacement for Christian Eriksen if the Danish star decides to leave North London next summer. It is believed that Mauricio Pochettino has identified the Spanish playmaker as an ideal option to fill Eriksen’s void if he part ways with Spurs over his recent wage demands.
The same source has also stated that Asensio is not willing to give up on his Madrid career just yet as he is determined to be a success at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. However, his stance could change if he fails to establish himself as a regular starter at the Spanish capital this season.
Since breaking into the Galacticos first-team back in 2016, the Spanish winger has caught the eye with his some dazzling displays on the pitch. He played an integral role in Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League triumph last season.
The 22-year-old has featured in 23 matches for Los Blancos this term, scoring four goals while creating four assists across all competitions. He has also earned 20 international caps for the Spanish national team and has scored one goal for his country so far.
Asensio has incredible potential and could be a future superstar in European football. It really makes sense for Spurs to snap him up as a replacement for Eriksen. The Spanish sensation has bags of pace in his locker and can dribble with the ball quite effortlessly past his markers. He can also be a prolific goal-scorer if given enough ammunition to find the back of the net from both inside and outside the opposition penalty area.
Asensio is also a very accurate passer of the ball and hardly has any weaknesses in his game. Young players of Asensio’s potential are hard to find these days so if Spurs get the chance to sign him at the expense of Eriksen, then it is a move well worth pursuing.
Hence we can conclude that it will be a fantastic acquisition for Tottenham if they can somehow manage to lure the Spaniard to make a move to North London in the near future.
