According to a recent report by TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Genk over the possibility of securing the services of Sander Berge. The same report has also claimed that any potential move would take place at the end of the campaign in what could be a deal worth in the region of €25m.
The Norwegian international came through the youth ranks of Asker in Norway before making a switch to Valerenga back in 2015. His promising displays in midfield at the Intility Arena caught the eyes of Genk chiefs who decided to bring him to Belgium at the start of 2017.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has been a substantial presence at the centre of the park for Genk during the course of this campaign. His outstanding contributions on the pitch this season have helped the Belgian giants maintain their healthy lead at the top of league standings.
Berge has made 29 appearances for the Belgian outfit this term, scoring two goals while creating four assists in all competitions. At such a young age, he has also managed to secure 12 international caps for the Belgian national side so far.
Berge is a midfield powerhouse who has incredible strength and is also very quick with his feet. He can cover a lot of ground in a short span of time and is also aerially dominant. At 20, the Norwegian prospect still has a lot of time to develop his game and fulfill his true potential over the next few years.
Spurs are in need of a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembélé, and the 20-year-old fits the bill perfectly. He has all the talents to be a massive success at North London if given a chance to showcase his worth in the Premier League.
The addition of the Norwegian wonderkid will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options and will also add some much-needed depth to his squad. The Argentine boss already has a plethora of options in midfield with the likes of Dembele, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Wanyama all vying for a starting berth in Pochettino’s first-team.
However, a player of Berge’s massive potential will help Spurs build for the future as they look to earn some major silverware in the coming years.
