Arsenal travelled to Old Trafford to clash heads with Manchester United earlier tonight looking to stretch their remarkable unbeaten run across all competitions. The Gunners began the match on the front foot and scored the opening goal of the game through Shkodran Mustafi’s header. However, it took the Red Devils just four minutes to come up with a response as Anthony Martial smashed in an equaliser from close range.
Unai Emery’s men took the lead again in the second half when Alexandre Lacazette somehow managed to get the ball in the back of the net in the 69th minute. However, United came up with an immediate reply when Jesse Lingard capitalised on a mistake at the back from Arsenal to slot home from close range. The match finished 2-2 with both teams sharing the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Bernd Leno – 5/10
The German could have done better with his initial save that led to the United equaliser in the first half. There was a communication breakdown between him and Kolasinac which gifted Lingard an easy equaliser in the second half.
CB: Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 7/10
The Greek defender looked solid at the back and did well to cope with the threat of Lingard and Marcus Rashford.
CB: Shkodran Mustafi – 6/10
He scored the opening goal of the game with his header but gave away some cheap fouls during the game.
CB: Rob Holding – N/A
He had to go off with an injury in the first half and was replaced by Stephan Lichtsteiner.
RM: Hector Bellerin – 6/10
The Spanish full-back was not able to be a threat going forward, but he did well defensively to stop Matteo Darmian in the wide areas.
CM: Lucas Torreira – 8/10
The Uruguayan was full of energy in midfield and made some fantastic interceptions during the game to help Arsenal earn a point at Old Trafford.
CM: Matteo Guendouzi – 6/10
All energy but no quality from the young Frenchman. He chased people down and made a living out of contesting the 50-50 balls in midfield.
LM: Sead Kolasinac – 6/10
He failed to communicate with his goalkeeper that let Jesse Lingard in and the United forward made no mistake from close range. Other than that, Kolasinac put in a decent display on the left flank with his overlapping runs.
RAM: Aaron Ramsey – 5/10
The Welshman couldn’t affect the game early on and picked up an injury which led to his substitution at half-time.
LAM: Alex Iwobi – 5/10
It was a poor performance from Iwobi. He looked a bit off the pace tonight and struggled to find joy down the left wing.
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 6/10
The Gabon forward failed to get himself into the game in the first half but came alive in the second. He tested David De Gea twice, but the Spanish keeper pulled off two fantastic saves to deny him a goal.
Substitutes:
CB: Stephan Lichtsteiner – 7/10
He came off the bench to replace the injured, Rob Holding in the first half and put on a solid performance during the game as part of the Arsenal back three.
CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6/10
The Armenian played his part in the lead up to Lacazette’s goal but missed a great chance to finish from close range.
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 7/10
The Frenchman came off the bench to score a scrappy goal in the second half.
