According to a recent report by the Independent, Anthony Martial’s agent has claimed that he is very pessimistic over his client’s contract negotiations with Manchester United even though the Red Devils triggered a one-year extension on Monday. In a recent interview with RMC, as mentioned by the Independent, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley shared his doubts over the player’s long-term future at Old Trafford and said, “I am very pessimistic about discussions going positively,”
“They’ve already sent us several offers that do not meet our expectations, starting on bases very far from our wishes. We are far from agreement for the time being.”
The 22-year-old striker sealed a move to Man United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015 and had since gone on to feature in 155 matches for the Red Devils, scoring 44 goals while providing 26 assists across all competitions. The Massy born sensation has also earned 18 international caps for the French national side and has one international goal to his name.
He has a habit of blowing hot and cold when given regular first-team starts which is one of the primary reasons why the French talent often found himself on the bench during the early stages of this season.
The French prospect is undoubtedly talented as he is incredibly quick and can make direct runs behind the opposition defence. He comes alive in 1v1 situations and is a proven goal-scorer due to his knack for converting chances when one presents itself.
United cannot afford to let go of their star players, especially during a time of transition after Jose Mourinho was sacked this week. The Red Devils need to rebuild under their new interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær so Martial is expected to be an integral member of his United team moving forward.
For now, it would be best for both parties to get some favourable results and concentrate on matters on the pitch. Whoever is in charge of Man United next summer will have an important decision to make regarding Martial’s long-term future at Old Trafford. So as long as the player can keep producing some good numbers on the pitch, it will be difficult for United not to give in to his demands.
