Tottenham Hotspur faced off against Everton at the Goodison Park earlier this afternoon looking to continue their recent good form across all competitions. The home team began the match on the front foot and took the lead in the 21st minute courtesy of Theo Walcott’s goal. However, it took Spurs just six minutes to come up with a response as Heung-min Son scored the crucial equaliser. The North London outfit took control of the game and scored two more goals through Dele Alli and Harry Kane to go into half-time with a commanding two-goal advantage.
The second half was more of the same with Spurs scoring early in the 47th minute through Christian Eriksen’s excellent volley before thumping the Toffees with goals from Heung-min Son and Harry Kane later on in the match. Everton got a goal back through Gylfi Sigurdsson in the 61st minute, but it turned out to be a consolation one as Tottenham ran out 6-2 winners on the day.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the match against the Toffees.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10
The Tottenham goalie was hardly tested during the first half and couldn’t do much about either Everton goals on the day. However, the French keeper distributed the ball well which was enough to get all three points from Merseyside.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 6/10
He produced some neat touches in the final third and was unlucky not to score with his fabulous free-kick which cannoned off the post but fell in the path of Kane who made no mistake from close range.
CB: Davinson Sánchez – 7/10
The Colombian prospect coped with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s pace quite well and produced a commanding display at the back for Spurs.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 6.5/10
The Belgian defender showed his class with another strong display in his own half. He was hardly troubled during the match but got exposed in the lead up to Sigurdsson’s goal in the second half.
LB: Ben Davies – 5/10
It was tough for him to deal with Theo Walcott’s electrifying pace down the wide areas. The Toffees forward got the better of him during Everton’s first goal which would disappoint Davies.
CM: Harry Winks – 7/10
The English talent kept things simple in midfield and performed well when put under pressure. It was another impressive outing for the Spurs midfielder who is slowly trying to establish his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 8/10
It was another powerful performance from the Frenchman in midfield. He worked his socks off during the game and created a number of excellent opportunities for his teammates.
RM: Christian Eriksen – 8/10
The Danish sensation passed the ball immaculately and showed a lot of class to pick out his teammates in the final third. He capped off his exceptional performance with a fantastic volley in the second half.
CAM: Dele Alli – 7/10
The English international was a threat in the opposition half and gave Spurs the all-important lead when the match was still a contest in the first half.
LM: Heung-Min Son – 9/10
The South-Korean forward provided a stunning finish in the first half to drag Spurs level. The Everton defenders really struggled to deal with his threat all throughout the game. Son got his second goal of the game at the hour mark to put the icing on the cake for Tottenham.
ST: Harry Kane – 8/10
The English forward scored a brace of goals on his way to enjoying a fine return to Pochettino’s starting XI.
Substitutes:
RM: Erik Lamela – 7/10
The Argentine attacker came off the bench to create some wonderful chances for his teammates.
LM: Oliver Skipp – 5/10
He got some valuable first-team experience for Spurs after coming on for the final eleven minutes of the encounter.
CAM: Lucas Moura – N/A
The Brazilian speedster didn’t have enough time to make an impact in the game.
